Always hunting for the best African coffee. ☕ ✌️
Cupping new coffee samples in Rwenzori, Western Uganda, with our team and my son, nicknamed Espresso. Rwenzori, or The Mountains of the Moon, which they poetically have been named since ancient times, has the potential to grow wonderful coffee. As Uganda now focuses more and more on quality coffee, more farmers are aiming to bring out the potential in their soil and their unique climate. Hope you enjoy some nice coffee this weekend! 😊

Our amazing new murals are finally done. Thank you James for a job well done! 👏
👏 Appreciation post! If you ever need a great mural painter, I would love to recommend James. He has done an excellent job for us, completing the large new mural we have created at our home on 7th Street, Industrial Area, Kampala. James told me how he last year had work for only two months. 😳 Luckily, he was able to survive by doing a little farming on his family land outside of Kampala. From this he made about $1.500. This is a typical story for so many talented and ambitious people in Uganda. The jobs are not there. Uganda has a rapidly growing young population. Now it's time to create the jobs! 💪 Do you have work for James? Feel free to call him on 0759155314 / 0765536754

Thank you Coffee Intelligence for shining a light on this important issue. It is really sad that these colonial practices are still upheld. We need a fundamental mindset shift, where selfish protectionism is replaced with access for the least privileged. The value of the coffee should belong to those who grow it. #impact #valueaddition #sustainablecoffee #tradenotaid
In most coffee-consuming markets, there is often a higher tax on imported roasted coffee than on imported green coffee. This can discourage those unable to absorb the cost from exporting roasted coffee. Germany imposes a 9% tax, while Japan has a tariff on roasted coffee of up to 20%. But these import tariffs aren’t just limited to major consuming markets. In India, Mexico and Panama, tariffs on non-decaffeinated, roasted coffee are 100%, 45% and 54%, respectively and in Brazil up to 35%. In today’s article, Jordan Montgomery speaks with Spencer M. Ross to understand why higher taxes are levied on roasted coffee, but not green beans, and whether this is a reflection of a wider power dynamic in the coffee industry. #coffeeindustry #coffeeroasting #specialtycoffee

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐈𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝? ✨ 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 In the past, proximity to the market was crucial for achieving maximum coffee freshness. But times have changed. Today, we can roast coffee beans in Kampala, and a week later, our customers in Norway can enjoy their freshly roasted coffee. (There is no warehouses in our distribution chain. The coffee goes directly from the roastery to our customers.) This level of freshness surpasses most locally available coffee in Norway. 🌍☕ Also, the green beans we roast are often fresh from the coffee garden. 🌱 Other coffees have spent months in storage and shipping containers before being roasted. ✨ 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭 The coffee industry is inherently unequal and unfair. With every cup consumed, the gap between the rich and the poor widens, as profits flow disproportionately to the wealthy in consuming nations. But what if we could rewrite this narrative? ✨ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟓𝐗 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 By roasting the coffee locally, the value returning to source can increase 5X compared to the norm of raw coffee exports. This higher revenue directly stimulates economic growth, helps to create jobs and improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers and their communities. Additionally, it reduces the reliance on middlemen and can lead to more equitable trade relationships between coffee producers and consumers. By roasting coffee at its source, we disrupt the status quo. 🔥 Roasting at source ensure economic impact where it truly matters: at the origin. Let's make every cup count! ☕️🌍💚

Our purpose keeps us going.
“This idea of a purpose-driven company is a recognition for people that they are buying *into* things, not just buying things.” Purpose has also shown to be good for profit, as purpose-driven companies have seen “five times return from the stock market over the S&P 500 index in the first 20 years of this century.” This does not mean it's always easy. When Norway closes its embassy in Uganda, and the US issues warnings against doing business in Uganda, you start to wonder if what you have set out to do is pure madness. But having our purpose of changing the coffee industry as our guiding light, we get that extra determination to keep going, in spite of challenges. We have to do this. Enjoy your coffee, everyone! 😊 ☕ https://lnkd.in/d7UQkuje

Here's to a season filled with hope and the promise of a bountiful coffee harvest! 🌱☕ A plentiful harvest is never guaranteed. First of all, you need to put in the work. Taking care of the plants. Give them the care and nutrients they require. And then hope the weather is on your side. Just the right amount of sunshine and rain. Temperature in the preferred range. ☀️🌧 And finally, pray that the coffee market offers favourable prices. Being a coffee farmer always has an element of luck. How will this season be? Let's celebrate the farmers who live like this year after year. 🏆👏 #CoffeeDreams #HarvestHopes #coffee #coffeerevolution #sustainability #faircoffee #impact #impactinvesting #valueaddition #specialtycoffee #coffeelovers #africancoffee #birthplaceofcoffee #thisisafrica #everydayafrica #coffeeiswild #wearewild #coffeesubscription #coffeeaddict #madeinafrica #coffeefarming #coffeefarmer #arabica #arabicacoffee #handpicked #supreme #coffeefarming

The Coffee Revolution is all about roasting at source. 🔥 If we continue exporting green coffee, the coffee origins will never benefit from the value potential of the coffee they grow.
